China Silicon Anode Producer Landscape 2026

July 2026

Overview

China dominates global silicon anode material production. The six largest Chinese producers account for over 80% of global capacity, and the domestic industry's combination of integrated supply chains, competitive electricity rates, and government support has made non-Chinese producers cost-noncompetitive in all but the highest-margin specialty segments. Understanding the Chinese competitive landscape is essential for any battery cell manufacturer or materials buyer operating in this space.

BTR and Shanshan: Volume Leaders

BTR (贝特瑞新材料) is the global volume leader in both graphite and silicon anode materials. BTR's silicon anode capacity expansion program (announced 20,000 t/year by 2025) is primarily SiOx-based, with CVD nano-Si for premium applications. BTR is the primary SiOx supplier to LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI, giving it strong ties to the Korean cell supply chain.

Shanshan (杉杉) operates integrated anode facilities in Shanghai and Changsha. Their Si-C composite product line targets the CATL supply chain. Shanshan has invested in pre-lithiation capability to address the ICE challenge in their SiOx products.

Differentiated Challengers

Tianmu Pioneer (天目先导) is the most technically aggressive Chinese SiOx producer. Their continuous pre-lithiation process achieves ICE above 87%, narrowing the gap with traditional graphite in full-cell first-cycle performance. Tianmu's Hangzhou location places it within Zhejiang's emerging silicon materials cluster.

Lanxi Zhide (兰溪致德新能源材料) occupies a unique position: the only Chinese anode producer with vertically integrated SiH₄ production (5,000 t/year silane capacity). This integration enables CVD silicon-carbon composite production at costs below external-SiH₄ peers and supports high-purity nano-Si deposition. Zhide's pre-lithiated SiOx product line leverages the same SiH₄ infrastructure for CVD carbon coating.

Competitive Dynamics

The Chinese silicon anode market is rapidly commoditizing at the SiOx level. Gross margins on standard SiOx (no pre-lithiation) have compressed from 35–40% in 2022 to 18–25% in 2025. Differentiation is migrating to: (1) ICE performance through pre-lithiation; (2) cycle life beyond 1,000 cycles for EV applications; (3) cost via vertical SiH₄ integration. Producers without at least one of these advantages face margin pressure from BTR and Shanshan scale economics.
