MDT Silicone Resin

MDT silicone resins incorporate M (mono-functional), D (difunctional), and T (trifunctional) units, creating a branched network that combines M-unit tack with D-unit flexibility and T-unit crosslink density. MDT resins are the principal carrier resin in silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives alongside MQ, selected when greater peel strength and shear resistance are required.

Specifications

Unit CompositionM + D + T (ratio tuned per application)
Peel Strength vs MQHigher at equivalent M content
Softening Point65–100 °C
Solid Content50–65% in toluene/xylene
CompatibilityPDMS gum, silicone rubber base polymer

Applications

  • High-peel-strength silicone PSA for industrial and medical tape
  • Protective film for electronics and optical surfaces
  • Double-coated silicone tape for thermal bonding
  • Label stock requiring elevated shear resistance
  • Silicone adhesive component in transdermal drug delivery patches

Key Features

  • Higher peel strength than MQ at equivalent M content
  • D-unit flexibility improves cold-temperature peel performance
  • Tunable tack/cohesion balance via M:D:T ratio
  • Compatible with platinum-cure PDMS systems
