Silicone-Modified Epoxy Resin

Silicone-modified epoxy resins graft reactive silicone intermediates onto epoxy backbones to combine the superior adhesion and chemical resistance of epoxy with the heat tolerance and weatherability of silicone. These hybrids are the leading binder for high-temperature anticorrosion primers on steel, chemical-plant equipment coatings, and heat-resistant powder coatings.

Specifications

Silicone Content15–40 wt%
Heat Resistance200–300 °C (vs 150 °C for standard epoxy)
Adhesion to SteelGrade 0 (ISO 2409 cross-cut)
Chemical Resistance10% H₂SO₄, 10% NaOH, aliphatic hydrocarbons
CureAmine or anhydride hardener; or heat-cure 160–200 °C

Applications

  • High-temperature anticorrosion primer for steel and cast iron
  • Chemical plant heat-exchanger and vessel exterior coatings
  • Exhaust system and turbocharger housing anticorrosion coatings
  • Heat-resistant powder coating (200–250 °C service)
  • Boiler and furnace external surface protective coatings

Key Features

  • Combines epoxy adhesion and chemical resistance with silicone heat tolerance
  • Heat resistance raised from 150 °C (epoxy) to 200–300 °C
  • Superior wet adhesion on steel vs pure silicone resin
  • Excellent resistance to fuel, oil, and dilute acids/alkalis
  • Compatible with amine and anhydride curing agents
