Silicone Resins (siblings)
Silicone Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive (PSA)
Silicone PSAs are formulated by blending MQ or MDT silicone resins with high-molecular-weight PDMS gum, delivering aggressive tack and high peel strength on low-surface-energy and high-temperature substrates where acrylic PSAs fail. Medical tape, electronics masking, and aerospace thermal protection are their primary markets.
Specifications
| Peel Strength (180°) | 8–25 N/25mm |
| Loop Tack | 6–20 N/25mm |
| Shear (1 kg/25×25 mm) | >10,000 min |
| Service Temperature | -60 °C to +200 °C |
| Compliance | FDA 21 CFR 175.300, USP Class VI (selected grades) |
Applications
- Medical tape, wound care dressings, and transdermal drug patches
- High-temperature electronics masking tape (wave soldering, powder coating)
- Low-surface-energy substrate bonding (PTFE, silicone rubber, polyolefin)
- Aerospace thermal blanket and heat-shield attachment
- Pharmaceutical cleanroom-compatible labeling
Key Features
- Adheres to low-surface-energy substrates where acrylics fail
- Service temperature range -60 °C to +200 °C — widest in PSA category
- Biocompatible grades: USP Class VI, ISO 10993 for skin contact
- Residue-free removal after extended dwell at elevated temperatures
- Stable tack and peel over wide humidity and temperature ranges
