Silicone Release Liner Coating

Silicone release coatings are ultra-thin (0.5–2 g/m²) cured films applied to paper, polyethylene, or PET film substrates to provide controlled release of pressure-sensitive adhesive labels, medical products, food packaging, and industrial tapes. MQ resin blended with PDMS in addition-cure or condensation-cure systems is the dominant formulation.

Specifications

Coat Weight0.5–2.0 g/m² (dry)
Release Force10–500 mN/25mm (tunable via M:Q ratio and cure)
Subsequent Adhesion Retention>90% (TLMI, PSTC)
Cure SystemPlatinum addition-cure (120–150 °C) or tin condensation
SubstrateGlassine, kraft, PE, PET, polypropylene

Applications

  • Label release liner (self-adhesive labels, barcode labels)
  • Medical release liner for wound dressings and surgical drapes
  • Food-contact parchment and baking paper (FDA compliant)
  • Industrial double-sided tape carrier and liner
  • Electronics protective film release surface

Key Features

  • Tunable release force across 3 orders of magnitude (10–500 mN/25mm)
  • No silicone migration — premium grades retain >90% subsequent adhesion
  • Platinum-cure enables fast line speed (≥300 m/min) at 150 °C
  • FDA 21 CFR 175.300 compliant for food-contact liner applications
  • Release force stable after 24h at 100 °C aging
